On to the next one...

In the last couple of weeks the Brewers continued to perplex me. Well, not really, it's what I've come to expect from the team this year. Expect the unexpected. I honestly thought we would hang onto Suppan and Vargas all year, especially Suppan. His contract was big, and our front office is reluctant to admit mistakes. Suppan's contract being the biggest mistake in their tenure up front. Hoping to make a big splash, Suppan  failed every year he was a Brewer. This shouldn't have really surprised anybody though, he was paid like a number 2 starter but only ever lived up to being a four or five starter for us. This unfortunately would be the start of a trend for Doug Melvin and his inability to sign free agent pitching. But I'm digressing, let's talk about recent events. Suppan was released, thank God, and has since signed with the Cards. Awesome. We play the Cards July fourth weekend and I hope we slap this punk around. As for Vargas, he just signed with the team we re-acquired him from, the Dodgers. Great, good luck to ya. I just hope DM has learned his lesson and won't go for Vargas a third time.

Speaking of learning lessons, DM is rumored to be in the Cliff Lee running. Sound crazy? It is and isn't. Let me explain, there are two outcomes of this.

First outcome: We trade Hart or Gamel and a lower level prospect for Lee and immediately trade him for good pitching prospects in a three way trade. I don't mind this option since Hart has proven to be inconsistent over the years and Gamel has not yet proven that he can stay healthy. I don't like this option because Hart is killing it again and Gamel has a bright future at first base in town if he can stay healthy.

Second outcome: We trade away one of the afore mentioned guys, get Lee and start winning games, get back into the race and don't trade him. Bad deal. We don't have the depth to make a deep playoff run the way it is now. Unless Parra can stay pitching as well as he has, we are screwed with this scenario. Even if we trade for Lee and make an attempt to sign him before the deadline, only to deal him anyways, it's still not cool by my book. Melvin will find a way to screw it up.

Third outcome: Stand pat and see how we are in a month and assess things then. My favorite option.

Why are we trying to make a run this year? Unless we are leading the division at the middle of July, we should be shopping half the team. Try get a haul for Prince. Hope Davis comes back healthy and dangle him infront of teams, if teams will take Suppan, somebody would take Davis.  Anyways, it's an off day today so I'm going to stop typing and save some of this for the next podcast.

Thanks for checking out the site and get the word out there about it. The more listeners and readers the better. Word.
